Unlock iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.3 Using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 [How-To Guide]

iPhone Dev-Team has just released Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 to unlock iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.3. For those who don't know, Apple introduced a new ASLR security feature in iOS 4.3.x which broke Ultrasn0w 1.2 naively using 0x1000 as the main executable base address. Now that iPhone Dev-Team has fixed Ultrasn0w 1.2 on iOS 4.3.3 by releasing Ultrasn0w 1.2.3, you can use it to unlock your iPhone on iOS 4.3.3 with old baseband.

iOS 4.3.3 Jailbroken & Unlocked

Supported Basebands:

  • 04.26.08
  • 05.11.07
  • 05.12.01
  • 05.13.04
  • 01.59.00
  • 06.15.00
  • 05.14.02 via 06.15.00 » [How-To]
  • 05.15.04 via 06.15.00 » [How-To]
  • 05.16.01 via 06.15.00 » [How-To]
  • 05.16.02 via 06.15.00 » [How-To]

Unsupported Basebands:

  • 05.14.02
  • 05.15.04
  • 05.16.01
  • 05.16.02
  • 02.10.04
  • 03.10.01
  • 04.10.01

Steps to Unlock iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.3 with Ultrasn0w 1.2.3:

  1. Open Cydia app on your jailbroken iPhone. Wait while it reloads and updates its cache.
  2. Cydia on iOS 4.3.3 (Main)

  3. Tap on the Manage tab at the bottom of Cydia and then tap on Sources section to view your current Cydia repos. If you see repo666.ultrasn0w.com already added in your current sources list, jump to step 4 otherwise continue to the next step.
  4. Cydia on iOS 4.3.3 (Manage)

  5. Tap on the Edit button on the top-right corner followed by a tap on Add button on the top-left corner. When Cydia will prompt you for the repo address, enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com as Cydia/APT URL and hit Add Source button.
  6. Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 Repo

  7. Now wait while Cydia updates its sources database. Once done, tap on the Search tab at the bottom of Cydia and type Ultrasn0w in the search field. As other 3rd-party Cydia repos also host Ultrasn0w, so make sure you download it from official Ultrasn0w repo as shown in the screenshot below:
  8. Search Ultrasn0w 1.2.3

  9. Select Ultrasn0w from the search results and tap on Install button on the top-right. The DEB file of Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 is around 14.3 KB in size.
  10. Ultrasn0w 1.2.3

  11. Now wait while Cydia installs Ultrasn0w on your iPhone. Once Ultrasn0w installation gets complete, tap on the Reboot Device button to restart your iPhone.
  12. Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 (Installed)

NOTE: Those iPhone users who do not rely on an unlock but still upgraded to iOS 4.3.3 while preserving their old basebands will get 1-signal-bar on iOS 4.3.3. To fix this signal-bars issue, you MUST install Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 on your iPhone.

UPDATE#1: For some reason, iPhone 3GS users with iPad basebands are still not able to unlock their iPhone on iOS 4.3.3 using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 :( If anyone have got any fix, please share in the comments section below.

Are you sure that your still on 06.15.00 BB ? Are you able to receive carrier signals from other GSM networks around you in your carrier list?

  • arT

TNX IT'S WORKING on 4.3.3 and 06.15.00 bb

  • http://www.generalemu.net General Plot

No, hers is an HTC HD 7, though far as I know, 3G should work on any phone capable of using it.

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Well, what I'm looking for is whether the same SIM is capable of supporting an iPhone's 3G option. What about the GSM option? Have you tried switching off all you data including 3G as well?

  • http://www.generalemu.net General Plot

They are active. It's a SIM from my wife's phone who is able to use 3G internet on her phone with no issues.

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

      Is her's an iPhone too?

  • yophie

Thanks - I went to download Ultrasn0w and discovered that Cydia got stuck on a "preparing filesystem" screen indefinitely. I think this means I need to uninstall and reinstall Cydia - how exactly?? - or fully restore to a custom IPSW and start the process over again, but I don't know how to do that, since I'm not sure I have any saved blobs (I'm on a mac)

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Yep, restore completely to a fresh custom IPSW install of your current iOS. What versions of the iOS does Cydia list here http://bit.ly/qS5bjW ? If you see the iOS version that you want to restore to already listed here, you can continue with the custom restore. Else, there is no way that you can restore to the same unless your on an iP3G. Read this http://bit.ly/oKCpYX.

I have an iphone 3GS on 4.3.3 with 6.15.00 baseband (it's new bootloader) and I've installed ultrasn0w 1.2.4, which indeed has unlocked the carrier restriction, but 3G mobile internet doesn't seem to be working. Oddly enough, GPS is working normally. The display does show the carrier name with a 3G next to it, but it's not able to open anything unless I'm on wifi.

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Its an issue specific to your SIM & carrier. Make sure that 3G services / settings are activated for your number. Call up your service provider if necessary.

  • Keisy

Hi! but can i somehow make it work now (back to 4.3.3?) because now it shows only black screen

  • yophie

Uh oh I did - my phone was already jb, so I un-clicked "install Cydia" when I upgraded from 05.16.02 to 06.25.00 iPad baseband, as javox said to do in the tutorial. Unfortunately, when I rebooted my phone, Cydia had mysteriously disappeared. After that, jailbreakme.com wouldn't allow me to re-install Cydia, so I just re-installed tethered through redsn0w, and was about to download Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 to unlock when I read this comment. Did I do something wrong?? 1) Why did Cydia disappear in the first place, and 2) should I now *not* download Ultrasn0w to complete the unlock?

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Not sure why its missing now, but you can try using Ultrasn0w & see if your able to unlock your device. If not, you would need to restore your device to a custom IPSW.

  • Keisy

Hi Pramod!!! I need your help
I have iphone 4 (USA) it wasnt jailbroken and had iOS 4.3.3 4.10.01 i unlocked it with Ultrasnow and it worked only with one russian sim card but denied all others. then I made jail with rersnow and nothing, I entered cydia and it said "cydia will exit when finish" and i left it for a night in the morning I found it with aple on the screen and no reaction
tried to make jail againg but failed, now thinking about upgrading to iOS 5 but dont know if its possible to unlock it with this firm. If u have any ideas let me know thanks

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

You iPhone is carrier locked & currently Ultrasn0w cannot unlock your BB as its incompatible. The only way that you can unlock your device is by using a Gevey SIM. Updating to iOS 5 would even kill the possibility of unlocking your iP4 using a Gevey. So don't update just yet.

  • Frodo

No but I figured out I had to do a tethered reboot. I did it a couple of times before my phone came back on. All is good.

  • JATIN

hey, actually using iphone 4 with grevey sim 4.3.3 and baseband 02.10.04..i need to factory unlock it(get rid of the grevey sim) to update it to ios 5...mine is jailbroken...plz help me guys...need to unlock it permanently...

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Not even remotely possible to do something like that unless Apple officially unlocks it for you. Contact the legit carrier to which the iP4 was locked to & request them for a permanent unlock.

  • Rachel

I am very new to this unlocking thing but I have an AT&T phone wanting tmobile. Jail broken, firmware 05.16.02, baseband 4.3.5. Have Cydia, can't unlock! Help!

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

You need to be on the iPad BB to get your device unlocked. Make sure that your aware of the consequences of doing so & only then proceed with the unlock.

  • Frodo

Went through all the steps down to reboot. My phone will not come on at all. It is stuck at the apple logo. Tried a hard reset and nothing. If I plug it in to the computer and start iTunes it wants to restore it to 4.3.5. If I do that will I not be able to continue to jb or ul ? I have a 3gs which had 4.3.3 and then I jb it to 06.15 before unlocking it with cydia's ultrasn0w 1.2.3.

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Did you accidentally Install Cydia once again over an already jailbroken device?

  • Anand

    Hi,

I have jaibroken my iphone 4 with snowbreeze but have not been able to unlock as it says here baseband 04.10.01 is not supported. I have installed ultrasn0w. How can I unlock my iphone as it currently says either No service or show one bar and cannot make any calls.

    Thanks,

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Using a Gevey SIM will only help you to unlock your iP4. Ultrasn0w doesn't support that BB.

  • ajay

YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!! MY IPHONE TOTALLY WORKS NOW,

  • Yogi

You guys rock !! thanks !!

  • dude

i have an iphone 3gs with 4.3.3 and modem firmware 06.15.00 done all steps still no service changed the sim with other network still no service

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Are you instead able to read other networks within your area from your carrier list?

  • Ang

Heya, I have an issue as well. I have a 3G on 4.2.1 with BB 6.15.00, new bootloader. Despite installing ultrasnow 1.2.3, I still have network issues. Issues as in service being dropped about every 2 minutes or so, and not reconnecting for about as long.

I originally jailbroke with redsnow, and recently tried a snowbreeze install - neither solved the issue. I've also tried the 3G/Data Roaming toggle method to no avail. Any help would be appreciated!

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

This could be more of a carrier specific issue with your iPhone. Pop in different carrier SIMs to see if it still persists. Ultrasn0w takes care of the unlock ONLY which is working great.

  • Sammy

    Hi Pramond,

Ok following my case: I turn back to 4.3.2 because 4.2.1 was the same issue. Device still marks "no service" given.

Under Carriers I do see all the carriers, another SIM card shows me the same "no service", so I recognize that antena works.

What else can I do? Please help me Guru ;)

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Not quite sure as to why its behaving in this manner. Have you tried switching OFF the 3G services & rebooting your device back?

  • sujendra

    Guys...it worked for me!!
I have an iPhone 3GS 4.3.3 to which i changed from BB 5.16.02 to 6.15.00(iPad). Went to cydia after the jail-break as instructed above and followed the steps; i was not sure whether i had installed ultrasnow properly but it said that installation was done. Simply rebooted my phone with my sim-card in it and this is what i observed:
-Network coverage bars area kept showing: searching...
-But i was able to make and receive calls nonetheless :)
-i think i might need to take a look at the gps now!

  • ahlecksgee

I have 4.3.3 with 6.15 BB on my iphone 3gs. Cant get service. What can i do? Please help

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Confirm the same with different SIMs belonging to other carrier networks as well. Also, see if your able to get the list of carriers within your area with the same SIM.

  • Sammy

    Hi,

I have a Iphone 3gs, new bootrom,Firmware 4.3.2 and baseband 06.15.00. It's Jailbroken of course with custom Firmware of Sn0wbreeze.Even if I install ultrasn0w 1.2.3, I recieve no service. Please help me! What can I do. I restore it several times, and I try with custom firmware 4.2.1 adn same reaccion. I would really apreciate any suggestion, idea, spell o miricale that come in your mind.

    I'm quite desperate.

    Thanks

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

No Service suggests that your iPhone is able to read the current SIM that's inserted. Are you able to see the list of other carrier network that's within your area? Also, you might want to try the same with other carrier network SIMs as well to see if the same issue still persists.

  • Mike

I got to this by searching about no service with ultrasn0w, read your comments with user "iPhone" and I guarantee you it wasn't a hardware issue, and you had them go and buy a new iPhone. I have an iPhone 4 from the US and had it working for over a year, opened up cydia today, it had a bunch of updates for me, including ultraslow, so updated it and now I get invalid sim or network not available or no service. So I doubt upgrading software will "break" my aim card slot like you suggested.

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Eh break your SIM card slot? That just made no sense to me. However, currently Ultrasn0w cannot unlock an iP4 whose BB version is above 01.59.00. So if your BB version other than 01.59.00, then only the Gevey SIM can unlock your iP4. If not, you would probably want to restore to a fresh custom iOS install for which you have a valid SHSH saved for your device already either by Cydia / TU.

  • gagan

dude ..i hav an iphone 3gs model no:MC637B,i hav jailbroken but it keeps showin "No Service" sign. waitin fr reply

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Before posting in a comment, first read the list of supported & unsupported BB versions. Next, confirm if your BB belongs to the supported list or not. Only then will Ultrasn0w be able to unlock your device for that particular BB version.

  • Keisy

Hi!!! I have now 3gs with bb 06.15 and dont know what iOS, TinyUmb shows that i have saved 4.1, 4.3.4, 5.0b1,2,3. On the screen now only USB cabel and itunes icon. cant even make emergency calls, made many different attemps and nothing... if somebody has any ideas please HELP(((((

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Create a custom iOS 4.1 IPSW using either Sn0wbreeze/Pwnage Tool & restore to it by pointing iTunes to Cydia's server.
