How to Activate iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.3 Using SAM?

After jailbreaking your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.3, you can install SAM on your iPhone to activate it officially using iTunes. This will not only provide you with much improved battery life but will also enable fully working Push Notifications on your iDevice. For those who don't know, SAM tricks iTunes to generate legitimate activation packets for your iPhone which in turn fully activates your iPhone without official carrier SIM card.

Steps to Officially Activate iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.3 Using SAM:

  1. Launch Cydia app on your jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad
  2. SAM (Cydia)

  3. Tap on Manage tab followed by a tap on Sources section
  4. Cydia (Manage)
    Cydia (Sources)

  5. Tap on Edit button on the top-right followed by tap on Add button on the top-left. Enter http://repo.bingner.com as Cydia/APT URL and tap on Add Source button.
  6. SAM (Cydia Repo Address)

  7. Tap on the Search tab at the bottom and type SAM in the search field.
  8. SAM (Cydia Search)

  9. Choose SAM from the search results and tap on Install button on the top-right begin SAM installation.
  10. SAM for iPhone 4/3GS

  11. Once done, hit the Reboot Device button to restart your iPhone.
  12. Cydia (Reboot Device)

  13. Once you have successfully installed SAM on your iPhone, navigate to Settings » SAM » Utilities and tap on Revert Lockdown to Stock button. You will see Stockification Success message. If you see Stockification Failure message then it means you have not installed correct version of SAM on your iPhone.
  14. SAM (Stockification Success)

  15. Now tap on SAM button on the top-left to go back to the main menu.
  16. SAM (After Activation)

  17. Thats it. Plug your iPhone to your PC or Mac via USB cable and launch iTunes. You will see the following screen in iTunes:
  18. SAM (iTunes)

  19. Wait while iTunes generate legitimate activation packets for your iPhone. Once done, you are all set to sync and backup your iPhone.
  20. SAM (iPhone Activated)

  21. After syncing and backing up your iPhone, iTunes will throw error 1651. Just ignore this message.
  22. iTunes Error 1651

  23. Open SAM app on your iPhone and click on the More Information menu.
  24. SAM (WildcardActivated)

  25. If you see ActivationState as WildcardActivated, thats it! Your done!
  26. To test if Push Notifications are working fine or not, install iPusher app from App Store. Once installed, tap on Test Push Notifications button and if you see Yay, push notifications work fine! message then it means Push Notifications are working fine. Also note that to test Push Notifications using iPusher app, you must be connected to Wi-Fi with an active internet connection.

UPDATE#1: Push Notifications Not Working on iOS 4.3.x After Using SAM? [How To Fix]
UPDATE#2: Fix SAM Error - SIM Card Not Does Not Appear to be Supported

  • Dereck

Could you tell me if SAM is compatible with Firmware 5.0.1? Since after I installed SAM my springboard has been crashing many times now. If not then maybe some of the programs that SAM came with like Erica Utilities might not be compatible with this firmware? Thanks in advance!

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Yes, SAM & its dependencies are perfectly compatible with iOS 5.0.x. It definitely should be some other incompatible app / tweak that you may have installed from Cydia.

  • KELVIN

    Thanks again. From Pakistan

  • Menno

Does this also work on 4.1.1?

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

      Yes.

  • Ralph

Pramod I followed all the procedure, got iPush and sas yaya notifications are working but still don't see them. Also wifi does not work (it wasn't working before anyways, just get the unable to join network error) any ideas in how to fix wifi connection issue?

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Check to see if your push is enabled from the Settings area. Reboot if necessary. For the Wi-Fi issue, I would suggest you to show it at the nearest Apple store & get it checked.

  • Ayman

When i do these steps will it, erase my recent programs downloaded on my iphone... and everything else? iphone 3gs and jailbroken + unlocked using snowbreaze ios 4.3.3

since its going to sync with iTunes as i see in the steps.

EDIT: used Snowbreeze AND from Cydia to unlock for the Carrier USED ultrasn0w

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

As long as these apps are already available in your iTunes library & that your device is authorized for use with the same PC, it will not erase / delete anything. Keep an eye on the warnings though i.e if any.

  • Foecking

Thanks Pramod :) my iPhone 4 gevey sim works great :)

  • Gill

    Pramod, live long and prosper.
    cheers :-)
    great tutorial.
may I suggest that this will be in the tutorial instead of in the comments:
"Goto SAM>>Utilites & then: Backup Activation>>Deactivate iPhone>>Restore Activation & then Reboot your iPhone."

  • Foecking

Do you think it will work to my iphone 4 gevey sim? 4.3.3 baseband 3.10.01 do i need to use the original carrier of this? Or not? This is from uk and now im in philippines using globe carrier. Thnks and advance

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Yes, you can use this to activate your device to resolve Push notification issues. If you have already used your original carrier SIM to officially activate your device, you need not use SAM.

  • Balaji

Will this work for iOS 4.1

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

      Yes, it will.

  • Foecking

Is this safe in iphone 4 gevey baseband 3.10.01
    Firmware 4.3.3

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

      Yes, its safe.

  • ilrobby

Sorry Pramod, sometimes my fingers was more fast than my eyes..! Now it works!! Very good job! Just a couple of doubt, now 3g connection seems to be slower than before and, notifications of "whatsapp" (iphone app like as skype) are "sent" by unique sender "named" -iphone4-. It's normal? Do you think that a software unlock will never be done for baseband unlockable? Thanks again, Robby.

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

I don't think anyone is working on anykind of unlock for the latest BB versions. So yes, you can safely assume that nothing new is going to come by anytime soon. 3G connection purely depends on your carrier & has got nothing to do with the way you activated your device. Also, Whatsapp notifications should be just like how you used to get them normally.

  • ilrobby

    Hi Pramod, status is "FactoryActivated"

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

That's the reason why Backup Activation is missing. You need to get it Wildcard Activated. Please go through the steps mentioned in this post once again & redo the procedure.

  • ilrobby

Sorry, I will try to explain me better, after itunes synch, push notification doesn't work yet, and on SAMpref.
Sorry but, I don’t find option “backup Activation”! :(

    I’ve:

    - “Restore Activation”;
    - “De-Activate iPhone (clear push);
    - “Revert Lockdownd to Stock”;
    - “Regenerate SIM”.

    iphone4 4.3.3 (gevey)

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

What is the current Activation State of SAM read as?

  • prames

    i followed all steps
but the problem is the network dissapears after 2-3 mins
    and displays "no service"

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

SAM doesn't affect the way how you receive your GSM signals from your carrier.

  • ramekee

i installed SAM and synct with itunes but didn't get the error message from itunes and still not getting any notifications, i'm using 4.3.3 version JB and i'm using a gevey sim.

    please help.

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Try the steps mentioned by me here.

  • Jack

Everything went perfectly until the part where I connect to iTunes. It says "We were unable to verify your identity using the information you provided. Please verify your information and try again."
I forgot to say, I’ve got an iPhone 2G running 3.1.3.

    Any help?

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

You need to either enter in the right info for iTunes to verify your credibility or hacktivate your device to get across it.

  • arjun

no but it worked after unlocking

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

That doesn't answer the question I just asked you.

  • Arjun

No I did 't even open Cydia I told na till yest after noon it worked fine. It Sam I looked wiledcard is activated. Pls fix me withthis issue. I was using iOS 3.2 in that push worked superb. After updating to 4.2.1 it really have this issue. Can I use any other version where push works fine. Say like lower iOS 4.1 or 4.0 or any other. Pls help me

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

I really don't think push depends on the version of the iOS that you use. Did you use a legit SIM to activate your device officially via iTunes while you were on iOS 3.2?

  • arjun

i tried all this step before 2 weeks and it was working perfect in my phone i was getting push notification. in i pusher i was getting the meesage push notification works fine. but from today after noon i am not able to get any push notification. even in i pusher i am not getting that reply. why is it so?
    plsss hepl

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Could be some apps / tweaks that uses push that could have rendered it useless. Did you install any such thing from Cydia?

  • http://Hi Daviid

Hi thank you very much now my ipush works fine but i have one question, i have 4.3.3 baseband 6.15.0 , can i update to a new version and still have my unlock (at&t) or will it be locked and then i cant unlock it...

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Yes, you can very well update to a higher version of the iOS. Just make sure to always use a custom IPSW for your restores no matter the iOS.

  • Dereck

Thanks Pramod! After the Restore Activation everything works!! Been trying to fix it for like a month! Thank you a lot

  • Will

when i plug the iphone in to itunes it loaded up as it normally would its a at&t im tryna get over to sprint

    HELP! ):

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Ehm, I really didn't what the issue is. The last time I checked, Sprint was strictly a CDMA network carrier. It isn't even theoretically possible to run a CDMA carrier network on your GSM iPhone because it lacks the necessary h/w to begin with.

  • yonatan

Ipusher is workoing but when i get mail its not pushing it(in the setting push is on)
Edit: Ty very much its working !!!!

  • yonatan

every thing was fine.but when i use ipusher its tell me "please wait" and nothing happen...
sam wrote "WildcardActivated" but the ipusher isnt working.i worked step by stp after the guide..
    what can i do ?? :(

    • http://twitter.com/pram0dm Pramod

Goto SAM>>Utilites & then: Backup Activation>>Deactivate iPhone>>Restore Activation & then Reboot your iPhone. After that, check your push with iPusher. That should work.
