How to Activate iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.3 Using SAM?

After jailbreaking your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.3, you can install SAM on your iPhone to activate it officially using iTunes. This will not only provide you with much improved battery life but will also enable fully working Push Notifications on your iDevice. For those who don't know, SAM tricks iTunes to generate legitimate activation packets for your iPhone which in turn fully activates your iPhone without official carrier SIM card.

Steps to Officially Activate iPhone 4/3GS on iOS 4.3.3 Using SAM:

  1. Launch Cydia app on your jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad

    2. SAM (Cydia)

  2. Tap on Manage tab followed by a tap on Sources section

  3. Tap on Edit button on the top-right followed by tap on Add button on the top-left. Enter http://repo.bingner.com as Cydia/APT URL and tap on Add Source button.

    4. SAM (Cydia Repo Address)

  4. Tap on the Search tab at the bottom and type SAM in the search field.

  5. Choose SAM from the search results and tap on Install button on the top-right begin SAM installation.

  6. Once done, hit the Reboot Device button to restart your iPhone.

  7. Once you have successfully installed SAM on your iPhone, navigate to Settings » SAM » Utilities and tap on Revert Lockdown to Stock button. You will see Stockification Success message. If you see Stockification Failure message then it means you have not installed correct version of SAM on your iPhone.

  8. Now tap on SAM button on the top-left to go back to the main menu.

  9. Thats it. Plug your iPhone to your PC or Mac via USB cable and launch iTunes. You will see the following screen in iTunes:

  10. Wait while iTunes generate legitimate activation packets for your iPhone. Once done, you are all set to sync and backup your iPhone.

    11. SAM (iPhone Activated)

  11. After syncing and backing up your iPhone, iTunes will throw error 1651. Just ignore this message.

  12. Open SAM app on your iPhone and click on the More Information menu.

    13. SAM (WildcardActivated)

  13. If you see ActivationState as WildcardActivated, thats it! Your done!
  14. To test if Push Notifications are working fine or not, install iPusher app from App Store. Once installed, tap on Test Push Notifications button and if you see Yay, push notifications work fine! message then it means Push Notifications are working fine. Also note that to test Push Notifications using iPusher app, you must be connected to Wi-Fi with an active internet connection.

    Hi.
    I've got a Gevey-unlocked iPhone running 5.0.1 baseband 04.10.01
    I just restored and upgraded to 5.0.1 with a custom IPSW to preserve BB, and jail broke and hactivated it with redsn0w.
    Thereafter I wanted to restore from a backup, but that option was no longer available in iTunes.
    Ive read on the net that you need to install this SAM app.
    Does anybody know if it's compatible with my version, baseband, etc. and if it works well.

    i guess SAM recently updated for ios 5 or something now its version says (0.1.12-34),about mont ago i used this manual and it worked fine. Yesterday i noticed some update notifications in cydia, and pushed update not reading apps it mentioned, after that iphone stuck (iphone 4, 4.3.3). ok i restored it again, install SAM again and same thing its stuck installing libsigc++, i did it again and same story, apple logo and wheel.i just wanted facetime to work.
    i think to give old version of SAM a try. found one on hackstore repo, version 0.1.3-1
    maybe someone could try it

      Yes, it seems that the new version of SAM is giving people some problems and it indeed led them to the apple logo and wheel. And they have been experiencing the problem since the update.

    Hi,

    Is restoring an option? If a hard / soft reset can't get your device working, I suggest that you perform a DFU restore. Just use Redsn0w to enter DFU mode (Extras > Just Boot and follow instructions on how to place your device into DFU mode), once in DFU mode, iTunes should be able to detect your device, then you can do a restore.

    Hi,

    You can try a soft reset (pressing both the power and home button at the same time until the screen turns black and the Apple logo re appears again) after your phone freezes due to SAM.

    Hi, can someone tell me the steps to use SAM on 3GS 5.0.1 jailbroken and hacktivated with redsn0w custom ipsw? Can SAM be used on hacktivated iphones? Once I get valid certs, can I backup and reuse them with later ios? Is there anything illegal about SAM? Can my iphone be added to black IMEI list because of it? Thanks in advance, Scr

    after doing the Goto SAM>>Utilites & then: Backup Activation>>Deactivate iPhone>>Restore Activation & then Reboot your iPhone thing it stuck on the turning wheel while rebooting so i tried to rebooted manually and still no pust notfications :S:S

      i managed to find how to make push work on 5.0.1 :) ...

      THE SOLUTION FOR PUSH NOTIFICATIONS on iOS 5.0.1 done through SAM is....:

      1. Open "SAM" under "Utilties" select "De-Activate iPhone", "Revert lockdown", and then select "Restore Activation"

      2. Plug into iTunes, and wait for the phone to load up + activation.

      3. Your phone is now officially activated! Test with iPusher....

      P.S.: If you get a iTunes Error saying invalid sim, go back into "SAM" and make sure "Auto Detect" is selected at the main menu.

      P.S.S.: i found it on by mistake on a forum after one week of searching for a solution. :)

    I have allready UNlocked the phone and have access to it... works like an iPad through WiFi. I have downloaded SAM to simulate a SIM-Card from AT&T but it hasn't worked jet.
    I had used the firsttime Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 an diphone2,1_5.0_9a335, but then i came to the acnkowledge to use iphone2,1_5.0.1_9A405 Just Redsn0w does not like it and rejected the file.. so i tried Snowbreeze.... I it works. At somehow i can't get all the file @Cydia from the pakage pushfix... i don*t know whats happening there... And i don't know if i need the at all.

    Hello there, I can help you. I had my phone unlocked on 5.0.1 and now know all the secrets. It will take some work to get it unlocked tho. Do you have like a MSN or something to communicate easier?

    Do you know how to fix my problem? I've just jailbroken my iphone 3GS to ios 5.0.1 with redsnow. I've followed all the steps required but somehow my phone is still unlocked. Itunes won't recognize my phone. Just then I follow your steps downloading SAM and iTunes work with my phone again, but I still can't get my carrier working. It just shows Searching... all the time. What should I do?

      Hi,

      I believe SAM doesn't affect carrier signal, keep in mind that this is for activating your iPhone 4/3GS using SAM. SAM doesn’t unlock your device.

    i did all the steps u said, but it still wont work, and everuthing is alrright with the instalation is says wildcardactivated and all i have an iphone 3gs 4.1(8b117) firmware 06.15.00, any recommendations??
