Stefan Esser (@i0n1c), an independent security consultant and iOS hacker, who previously demoed iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak on his iPod Touch 4G has just passed his untethered exploit to iPhone Dev-Team for beta testing. In a reply to an unknown user on Twitter, MucleNerd confirmed that the exploit he received from Stefan for untethered iOS 4.3 and iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak is real and working for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
Below is a video in which Stefan is demoing iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak on his iPod Touch 4G. Some excerpt from the video description:
In the video you can see how I switch off the iPod, then restart it, show the version, show that it is untethered and has the multitasking gestures, i show that you can buy ringtones and then I show cydia and the ninja jump game from last time.
In his tweet, Stefan mentioned that the exploit he used for iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak is now in iPhone Dev-Team's hand and now its up to them what tool they choose to implement the untethered exploit as jailbreak package. Probably it will be coming in the form of Redsn0w or PwnageTool.
For those who don't know, all iDevices except iPhone 3GS (Old Bootrom) has been already jailbroken on iOS 4.3 (Sn0wbreeze | PwnageTool) and iOS 4.3.1 (Sn0wbreeze | PwnageTool) by using Sn0wbreeze and PwnageTool bundles. As all iOS 4.3 and iOS 4.3.1 current jailbreaks are tethered, so you must use iBooty or TetheredBoot Utility to boot your iDevice into tethered jailbroken state.
After getting untethered exploit, all iDevices will be able to boot into jailbroken state without using any tools like iBooty or TetheredBoot Utility. As confirmed by MuscleNerd, the only glitch in releasing the jailbreak tool based on Stefan's untethered exploit is some Cydia compatibility issues which hopefully will be fixed soon.
Stefan himself confirmed that the beta testing of his untethered jailbreak exploit by Dev-Team is successful. Although there is no ETA given by Dev-Team but we can expect the untethered jailbreak within the month of April.
Stay tuned while we update you with the latest news on iOS 4.3 and iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak.
