Fix iTunes Error 1600 During Custom IPSW Restore [How-To Guide]

Restoring custom IPSW made with PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze without pwning the iBoot in your iDevice results in Error 1600. If you will try to restore using recovery mode, iTunes will throw Error 21 and if you will try to restore custom IPSW using normal DFU mode, you will get Error 1600. To fix this error, you must put your iDevice into Pwned DFU Mode using iREB.

Fix iTunes Error 1600 on Windows:

  1. Download iREB for Windows from here
  2. Connect your iDevice to your PC via USB cable.
  3. Close iTunes window if already opened.
  4. Launch iREB and click on the name of your iDevice.
  5. iREB R4 Error 1600 Fix Fix iTunes Error 1600 During Custom IPSW Restore [How To Guide]

  6. Now use the following instructions to put your iDevice into DFU mode:
    • Hold down the Home+Power button simultaneously for 10 seconds.
    • After 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button until iREB detects your iDevice in DFU mode.
    • As soon as iREB will detect your iDevice in DFU mode, it will patch the iBoot using Limera1n exploit.

Exploiting with Limera1n Fix iTunes Error 1600 During Custom IPSW Restore [How To Guide]

  7. Once patched, iREB will confirm you that your iDevice has been put into Pwned DFU Mode.

  9. Leave your iDevice connected to your PC and restore it using iTunes.

Fix iTunes Error 1600 on Mac:

Unfortunately, iREB is not available for Mac users but there is a workaround to avoid 1600 iTunes error on Mac using Redsn0w. Just follow step-by-step guide here to put your iDevice into Pwned DFU Mode using Redsn0w 0.9.7b6.

Hi!What IOS you are on. Download that IOS i mean ipsw and go to the custom option on redsnow and customise it to NO BB IPSW. Once done go to redsnow again and extra then SHSH blob, then stitch and stitch the build you just made by customising your ipsw. once done run tinyumbrella and save shsh and then start tss server. once tss server is running put you iphone in DFU mode using redsnow or ireb. Now run itune and it will detect your phone in recovery mode. shift restoreand select the build you just stitched using redsnow it will be starting with 13 digit. I can guaratntee you, that this will do the trick. I had same problem and just followed my own guide and it did work… Please let me know how you get on..

If you get the error 1600 when restoring, even in PWNED DFU mode do this. 1. Open Notepad (As Administrator if you have WinVista or Win7)2. Browse to the directory “C:WindowsSystem32DriversETC”3. Select “All Files” instead of “Text Files”4. Open HOSTS
    5. Remove any line of “gs.apple.com”

I am using a 3GS with new bootroom was jailbroken on 5.0.1 using Redsnow. It was working fine until I downloaded an app. After that my phone started going off for a while. It would come back only when I would press Home and Power for 1 few seconds. But now, it has stopped working completely. This is what happens now :

    1. Most of the time, it would be completely dead. But if I leave it untouched for a day and then connect it to my PC, it comes back to life. But when I would start using it even for a few seconds (to resrtore again), it would go blank or gives me a completely white screen.

    2. After several attempts, if it comes back to life, it would either be in Recovery Mode or stuck on Apple logo or show me a gray or a white screen only.
    3. Itunes detect it, but gives me error 1600 while restoring to my custom 5.0.1 IPSW using Redsn0w.

    4. I have tried using Redsn0w and iReb many times and they tell me that my device is in Pwned DFU mode but I still get error 1600.

    5. The phone remains virtually dead but itunes recognizes it and Tinyumbella log also shows DFU device connected.

Any help would be appreciated !!!

Look here is the solution ……..
    if you were jailbroken …..
I went to the redsnow that i had used to jailbreak my iPhone before i tried to restore to update and did this.

(These all appear in the EXTRAS section of redsnow)
1)SELECT IPSW that i had stored away in my mac (in my case 5.0)
2)I clicked on RECOVERY FIX and followed the steps
3)JUST BOOT TETHERED and then …..VOILA!!!!!!

Im not gonna risk restoring i think I’m just gonna update on the device cause iTunes really had me tearing stuff apart
    good luckiPhoners!

I have an iphone 2g with error 23 and when i use ireb i get 1600 or 1601 error. After i run ireb it says on my iphone screen Waiting for custom firmware (as custom i`ve tried all firmware possible for iphone 2g, original releases). Nothing seems to work.

Also tried RedSn0w when it asked for custom firmware, but it gets stuck at downloading jailbreak data. In itunes it doesn`t show me the imei or anythnyng else.

    Some help?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

Error 23 is caused due to a h/w issue (faulty processor / BB) in your device. Fix an appointment with the Apple Store. Also, the iP2G never really needs to be in a pwned DFU mode / require custom IPSWs.

How exactly, can you please give some more information.
I am doing this for 3 days and get errors all the time, from 1600 to 3194, one gets fixed another comes up.
the last stage now is I am getting 1013a almost at the last point…
Not sure what I am doing wrong, but you guys make it sound so easy.

    Following these steps:
    1. Download iREB

    2. Download Tiny Umbrella

    3. Go to your Hosts file and Clear anything with regards to gs.apple.com

    4. save file as Hosts (with no extension)

    5. run iREB to enter your device into a pwned DFU state

    6. open tinyumbrella and “start tss server”

    7. now open itunes and shift + click restore

    8. choose desired ipsw

    9. viola!

It did not work for me, still getting the error at the end. Please help!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 8 months ago

You need to have had an SHSH already saved for your device / iOS to which your trying to restore to. Fix error 3194 first for a restore to start. Make sure that your hosts file is pointing to Cydia if your downgrading / restoring to an earlier iOS version other than iOS 5.0+. Read this http://bit.ly/oKCpYX to solve Error 3194.

    AJUnlocker2 years, 10 months ago

I managed to downgrade an iphone 4 from 4.3.5 to 4.3.3. It was tricky, but I basically did a tethered jailbreak on redsnow using a 4.3.3 ipsw, and from there used fixrecovery, had TU running basically the whole time, hosts redirected to TU… and then did a snowbreeze ipsw from the 4.3.3 rom I had used in redsnow, and shift+restored it in itunes. Works great. jailbroken with no tether, but the baseband is still 4.10.1, and looks like it’s gonna be. But who cares?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

      Tethered iOS 4.3.3 JB ? FixRecovery? Starting TSS & also editing the Hosts? Sn0wbreeze + Redsn0w ROM ? :S
      Why all that?
All you had to do is Start the TSS Server from within TU & restore to a your custom Sn0wbreeze 4.3.3 IPSW in a pwned DFU mode. That’s it !! :D

  •
    Xavier2 years, 10 months ago

Just wanna ask, why do my iTunes keep showing error 1600 even after I created and used the custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

Because you need to still put your device into a DFU mode first & then restore your device. Read the article again & use iReb.

  •
    Brenda2 years, 10 months ago

    Hi!
I have a funny problem here, i already used sn0wbreeze to create a custom IPSW for 4.3.3 coz there was an error 1600 (trying to downgrade 4.3.5 to 4.3.3 w/o SHSH blobs, which is actually possible!-> http://www.limera1n.cc/2011/08/downgrade-435-to-433-without-shsh-blobs.html) and at first, when i clicked shift+restore, it went kinda smoothly, with the sn0wbreeze logo appearing on my iPhone 3GS doing the restoring thingy, but then iTunes said that it could not be restored due to error 37.
I then clicked shift+restore and chose the custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze in my desktop but then, now error 1600 appeared again, even though the custom IPSW was already created. Why is this so? Do i have to use sn0wbreeze to create another custom IPSW?
Please help, i’ll appreciate it a lot :)

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

Who said so that its possible to downgrade w/o an SHSH? The iPhone explicitly checks for one & if it doesn’t, you will be kicked into an infinite DFU loop. Sure your restore will go through, but it will always be a tethered JB which will eventually kick you into a DFU once its screen locks. You absolutely CANNOT restore w/o an SHSH to any kind of iOS whatsoever. Read this http://bit.ly/oKCpYX to further understand why is it actually necessary. Can’t help if someone claims its possible when its practically not.

Tried lot of time. Iphone 3gs 4.3.3 baseband ipad 6.15.00
    1. if redsnow , stuck in waiting for reboot
    2. if itunes for custom restore build using snowbreeze, always 1601
    3. Fix Recovery also not working.

    Tried iReb, snowbreeze, tinyumbrella, redsnow.
No solution as if now, please help please help .. i want to get out of this bug.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

Eh, what are you actually trying to achieve here? Please explain your scenario first as to what your trying to get to & what bug are you talking about?

  •
    Tony2 years, 10 months ago

problem with that is getting 4.3.3 to go to error 10XX so i can get it out of recovery lol. Looks like I am not going to have luck with 1600 getting in the way at this time *sigh*

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

As I mentioned earlier, you still need to put your device into a pwned DFU mode always before a restore. Failing to do so will always result in 16xx errors. Use Redsn0w / iReb to achieve this. This is very important for any kind of custom Shift+Restores.

  •
    Tony2 years, 10 months ago

Well.. what was weird about it was it did say greenpois0n at the top when it started. I dunno…

Still have no idea what I did to get 4.2.1 to work lol…… and it wasnt done with SB *cries* lol. Now if only I could do this with 4.3.3

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

Yes, FixRec43 does work in getting your iOS out of a 4.3.x recovery loop & since you do not rely on an unlock, probably you can try the same with 4.3.3.

  •
    Tony2 years, 10 months ago

here is a twist in the plot…. I finally got 4.2.1 on there. BUT i had to do fix recovery a few times with TU. When it finally worked, my iPhone screen was crammed with white text on black background. Looked like when you JB with greenpois0n… But I am pretty sure I never did a JB with greenpois0n….

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

Well yeah !! That’s FixRecovery doing its job of kicking your device out of the recovery loop that you were in after the stock install of iOS 4.2.1. It doesn’t JB your device in either ways.

  •
    Tony2 years, 10 months ago

yes. The custom IPSW I used for SB is named “iPhone3,1_4.3.3_8j2_Restore.ipsw”

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

Mhm, that’s weird. Try recreating a fresh custom install for the same via SB & retry the install.

  •
    Tony2 years, 10 months ago

MC608LL/A – iPhone4 according to TU. So I was assuming that is for “iPhone 4 (GSM model)” from theiphonewiki.com since before iTunes would tell me the latest firmware for my iPhone was 4.3.5 not 4.2.10. Am I right?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

Yes, but the name of the IPSW that you have used with Sn0wbreeze should start with iPhone 3,1 … Did you use exactly the same one with SB to create the custom IPSW?

  •
    Tony2 years, 10 months ago

I placed all the settings as indicated in the link. I have phone currently in pwnedDFU mode after using iREB. Shift+click restore and selected clean custom 4.3.3 IPSW and a sn0wbreezed IPSW. Both say

“The iPhone Could not be Restored Because Firmware is not Compatible”

when I choose them. If I press restore without Shift+click I get

“Software for this iPhone is Currently Unavailable. Please make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again”

even though I am running the latest version 10.4.1.10.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

And are you absolutely sure that the custom IPSW that you have created is for your iPhone model only? What’s your iPhone model?

  •
    Tony2 years, 10 months ago

I think I forgot to mention TU and cydia both say I have the SHSH blobs saved for 4.3.3. Sorry…. Right now im trying 4.2.1 and now getting 1013 as ive givin up on 4.3.3…. its 4:30 am here and im starting to get cross eyed from lack of sleep lol. Any other ideas? im kinda at a loss with 4.3.3 lol

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

Open up TU first & set it to these settings http://bit.ly/qqFuve & quit it. Next, put your device first into a pwned DFU mode using iReb / Redsn0w & restore it using a custom 4.3.3 IPSW only via iTunes.

  •
    Tony2 years, 10 months ago

    Hello!

Just have to say first off, absolutely LOVE the site! Been helpful so far =)

BUT…. found this error for the first time ever, and cant seem to find help anywhere! I’m trying to restore my iphone 4 to firmware 4.3.3. I followed all the steps for DFU etc etc. I have TU running TSS to do update, use fix recovery and get error 21 when i try to restore. Then, when I place it into DFU mode I get error 1600. THEN, I place it into pwnedDFU mode via iREB r4 (which is supposed to be the end to this…. right?) nope…. I then get this error message “The iPhone Could not be Restored Because Firmware is not Compatible”….. any ideas?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    •
      Pramod2 years, 10 months ago

You need to have the necessary SHSH blob saved for your iOS / device. So, since Apple does not sign iOS 4.3.3 anymore, you cannot update to it either w/o having an SHSH for the same saved either by Cydia / TU. Using TU will not help either.

      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

For an iP2G, you need not even want to restore to a custom IPSW. Update to the latest 3.1.3 stock IPSW via ITunes itself & then use Redsn0w0.9.5b5-5 to both jailbreak & unlock the same. Make sure that you point Redsn0w to iOS 3.1.2 ONLY.

  •
    Eduardo2 years, 11 months ago

When i try to restore, in pwned DFU mode, i get error 1646, I have built a custom IPSW via sn0wbreeze for 4.2.1; and I have an ipod touch 3g

    •
      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

Use Redsn0w instead of iReb to put your device into a pwned DFU mode. Read http://bit.ly/pioV9v. Also, make sure that your indeed having the SHSH saved for that iOS version to which your trying to restore to.

  •
    Tobias94132 years, 11 months ago

Yeah I tried restoring to stock and failed. Though i think most people who want to go ahead and downgrade also want to jailbreak so might aswell use custom firmware

    •
      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

You always need to restore to a custom IPSW if you have ever relied on an unlock in the past.

  •
    Carrie2 years, 11 months ago

:/ ok yes it did work but after i restored my ipod using the custom firmware from snowbreeze, the ipod wouldnt reboot and itunes keeps saying my ipod is in recovery mode. No matter how many times i do it, the ipod still wont reboot and now i cant kick it out of recovery or pwned dfu mode using tinyumbrella, pressing home and power button, or ireb. Help somebody please?

    •
      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

Read this http://bit.ly/oKCpYX first. Unless you do not have the SHSH blob saved for your device, an infinite DFU loop is all what you get.

  •
    Tobias94132 years, 11 months ago

I figured out how to fix error 1600 and almost any ore error guys!! Okay first you DON’T need tiny umbrella. Second you must edit your host file. Delete apples ip and add cydias ip. Use iReb to enter pwnd dfu. Open iTunes and shift restore to a custom firmware and voila. Idk if this works with stock FW. I downgraded from 4.3.5 to 4.3.3 and this was the only way it worked. I did have shsh blobs which is a must and unless your new to jb you should have. No “#” before the ip address and Also don’t do anything with TU.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

Yes, this only worked because you had the SHSH saved for iOS 4.3.3 & that you used it by pointing iTunes to Cydia (by removing the comment literal). Also, your restore would have definitely errored out if you had used a stock IPSW instead of a custom one.

Error 28 is a hardware error issue possibly caused due to a failed BB chip initialization. I suggest you to take it to the Apple store first before taking it apart yourselves.

Unplug your device & reboot it using both the Home+Power buttons. Now plug it back in & put it into a pwned DFU mode using Redsn0w http://bit.ly/pioV9v. Redo the restore from iTunes. Make sure that you have the hosts file edited.

i have a iphone 3gs.it was on 3.1 tethered till 1 day ago.yesterday i updated the FW to 4.1 put i couldn’t open it because it was in dfu mode and i couldnt get out of it( i tried redsnow, TU, recboot etc.) than i upgraded it to 4.3.3 and the same problem comes up.but i managed to jailbreak it with redsnow rc18 (the phone being in a constant dfu mode) and i managed to install ipad baseband on it.after 8 hours of pain i thought it was over.but after 5 minutes of functioning my phone turned off and i couldnt get it to open with redsnow(just boot tethered) or anything else.
the worst problem is that i cant restore with any ipsw, custom or stock.all i have is the phone in dfu mode and when i try to restore i always get and error.can anyone please help me, im desperate…

    okay heres my deal.
    i have an iphone 4 running 4.3.5. i have shsh for 4.3.3 -4.3.4 -4.3.5
i was on 4.3.3 but had to do a clean restore and ended up with 4.3.5. i tired many downgrading options from changing my host to TU but no luck. it was prevoiusly JB with snowbreeze custom FW. i tried running tss then ireb then downgrade to 4.3.3 CF but got erroe 1601 then i tried TSS then ireb downgrade to 4.3.3 itunes stock but got error 1013. any idea whats going on?? i have the latest itunes version.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

Since you already have one saved on Cydia for iOS 4.3.3, create the same custom IPSW once again using Sn0wbreeze 2.7.3 for iOS 4.3.3. Now set your TU setting to this http://bit.ly/qqFuve & quit it. Do not open it again. Next, put your device into a pwned DFU mode using Redsn0w http://bit.ly/pioV9v & now Shift+Restore from iTunes. TSS works only if you have an SHSH blob saved locally on your machine.

hi.. i have iphone 4 if i update to 4.3.5 getting error 14….plzzzzzzzzz help me out im stuck….thnxxxxxxxxxx

    •
      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

Error 14 suggests of a hardware issue caused by a bad USB cable/USB port. Try performing the same restore procedure on a different machine as well to see if it resolves your issue. Also, try switching off any security s/w that you might have running at the background.

    Mihailov2 years, 11 months ago

I did use TU to fix the error 3194, and then IReb to get rid of the error 1600.
I’m trying to downgrade from the version 4.3.5 to either 4.2.1 or 4.3.1, and my Ipod is a MC544LL 4g, 32g.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

Make sure first that you indeed have the SHSH blobs saved for your device on Cydia. Also avoid TU & restore only by editing your hosts file to point it towards Cydia. Read this http://bit.ly/qWKCRX to learn how to edit it & then try your restores.

Hi … This trick fix my problem too.
My i3GS stuck at boot logo after customized ipsw 4.3.3 with redsn0w 0.9.8b4 + ssh bundle.

then I just follow the steps above, and voila … my i3GS starting up normally.

My Itouch won’t reboot after being restored, it just stays in the PWND DFU state. I plan on using GreenPoison instead of RedSnow, any ideas of how to fix this without having to use RedSnow?

Did you use TU for your restores? Also please explain in detail the iOS versions/iPT models to be able to help you in a much better fashion.

My Iphone 4 refuses yo start after i tried jailbreaking with snowbreeze, i am constantly in DFU mode, shall i upgrade my iphone using the restore facility, would it help.

I have tried tiny umbrella, so the earlier error of 37 has now become 1600… pls help.

    •
      Pramod2 years, 11 months ago

You need to use iReb & put your iPhone into a Pwned DFU mode right before you start with the restore. A simple DFU mode will not suffice.

  •

I just got iPhone 4 from verizon. It came with firmware 4.2.8 on it.

I tried to jailbreak using snowbreeze 2.7.3 and the same firmware.
I went through all the steps directed on a site called redmond.com and i cannot get anything to work

I believe it is stuck in DFU mode but there is nothing i can do.
It will not let me restore any kind of ios
I’ve tried everything from greenpoison to ireb to tinyumbrella to changing host file to redsnow and nothing seems to work

I’ve also tried all the button holding tricks and i can’t get my phone working

Someone PLEASE help i just got the phone and i don’t understand what is going on

It tries to restore but i get errors everytime…i get farther in the process using tinyumbrella but i still end up with errors and not being able to restore

    •

Does iTunes detect your device in a recovery mode? Also to jailbreak your iP4, all you needed to do was run Redsn0wRC18. You shouldn’t have run GP/Sn0wB or anything at all in the first place. Well in case your still stuck at the DFU mode, what you can try is to run RedSn0w with the Just Boot Tethered Now option ticked to see if its able to get you out of the DFU loop (only if iTunes is detecting your device in a recovery mode).
Your getting the errors because you haven’t saved the SHSH blob for your iOS to restore to later using any of the tools which I feel at this point of time is too late since you have already done the restore. If none of the above works for you, your only way to get your iP4 working is by restoring to the latest version.

Thanks Pramod for the reply. unfortunatly it did not work either with redsnow17. Both iPhone and Ipad are completely blacked out and do not respond. the only option seems to do a restore through itunes to 4.3.4.. or repeat the custom update all over again =(

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

Sorry, my bad. You need to be using RSrc19. This version of RS has been updated with the untethered payloads for iOS 4.2.1. You need to be using this.

I used Pwnage Tool to create it, at this point I just want to get the phone working. Sigh,

I dont see a New Bootrom button when utilizing Pwnage. But I’m followin the steps displayed on this site. And yes I have been putting the phone in Pwned DFU mode when I restore it.

Any other programs I should try? I’ll keep at it now

EDIT: I used Pwnage to create the Custom Firmware. It goes through the restoration fine, just not able to get out of DFU mode when using redsnow.

Now it says unexpected Error and displays a white blank screen when I use Red Snow.

I’m going through all the steps again to make sure I’m not missing anything.

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

Your iPhone should be back up without the intervention of Redsn0w right after the restore. You might want to use the IPSW cooked by us here http://bit.ly/k1DeYH. As always, Pwned DFU mode restore only.

  •
    carlos3 years ago

Just created a new one and tried to restore but too no avail.

I tried to reboot( redsnow) but again it shows the pineapple logo and then stops

I downloaded the firmware from this site.

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

Using which tool did you create it? Are you sure that you have ticked the New Bootrom ? While putting it in the Pwned DFU mode as well? (If your using RedSn0w)

  •
    carlos3 years ago

I’ve checked it and I have the new bootrom “iBoot-359.3.2]”, and I’m trying to restore to a custom 4.2.1.

    Is this wrong? Thoughts?

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

Are you sure that the custom IPSW that your restoring to is for the new bootrom version of the iP3GS & not for the old one?

  •
    carlos3 years ago

    Right, sorry.

I’ve been trying to restore my ihpone since updating through itunes accidently. I have an Iphone 3gs with an Ipad baseband. It goes through with the process fine,( installing custom firmare, tiny umbrella, etc. ) but When it’s done it simply says it is in recovery mode through Itunes.

I’m guessing it’s in DFU mode( Screen pitch black)

I tried to Reboot through Redsnow with no luck and i’m at a dead end.

    Thanks so much for everything

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

Make sure that the custom IPSW that you have created for your iP3GS is for the right bootrom version. Your custom IPSW & your actual iP3GS bootrom versions aren’t the same. Check it using iDetector.

I used Redsn0w to get me out of this DFU loop. it worked for the first time for both my ip3gs and Ipad1 then my iphone went completely black .. and ipad needs to be Boot tethered everytime it shutsdown .. any thoughts? =/

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

You have used that version of Redsn0w which is updated to give you only a tethered jailbreak for your iPhone/iPad. So you need to use the latest version RSrc19 to jailbreak your device on whichever iOS version it might be on.

Hiya i use the iREB and puts my iphone into Pwned DFU state. It seems to restore fine, the message comes up to say your iphone is now restarting, but once it restarts, i get another message saying it needs to be restored again. And its just stuck on a black screen, need help urgently

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

You really need to choose the right bootrom version while creating the custom IPSW for your iP3GS. Run Redsn0w only with the Just Boot Tethered Now option ticked. That should get you out of the DFU loop.

  •
    Mellowman3 years ago

Hi, thanks for this site, i managed to remove the 1600 error, iTunes begins to install my custom firmware and goes through the whole process. However, when it’s finished installing it then tells me the iPhone has been restored to factory settings. then iTunes instantly comes up with ‘iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode’

    Please help

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

And what state is your iPhone in right now? Is it in a completely black screen? If so, run Redsn0w only with the Just Boot Tethered Now option ticked. That should get you out of the DFU loop.

    Michael3 years ago

    hi,

i tried to jailbreak my phone using the steps on a previous guide done by your self, but my iphone 3gs is still PWNED DFU state….

i have tried to do the steps holding the buttons, but no joy, although i do hear the computer making that USB connect/disconnect noise. I have also used the iReb-4 software to try and place it into the DFU again whilst in the mode (try and restart it) and also clicked the repair button.

i cannot use my phone at all, and cannot restore it using iTunes, either the original using a plain basic download, or any jailbroken ones.

can you help me with this please

    •
      Pramod3 years ago

Seems like you have set your IPSW to a wrong bootrom. Run Redsn0w only with the Just Boot Tethered Now option ticked. That should get you out of the DFU loop.

Hi. I am on a verizon iphone 4 on 4.2.8 firmware
On both sn0wbreeze AND ireb, my iphone in dfu mode is not detected and it does not proceed to put my iphone into a pwned dfu state.
However, I am sure I am in the dfu state as tinyumbrella confirms i have connected a dfu device and my screen in is black and will not turn on by just holding the power button.
Any ideas on how to get ireb or sn0wbreeze to recognize my phone is in dfu mode?

    •

Can you try the same on your friend’s PC as well? Sometimes, the s/w on your PC might cause such issues as well. Try it on a different machine, it sure will work then.

i have jailbreak iphone 3g on 4.0.2. want to restore to original 4.0.2.

You need to put your iPhone in a Pwned DFU state. A simple DFU will not suffice for a Custom restore. Use iReb from here http://bit.ly/k8MNtA to put your iPhone into a Pwned DFU state and then continue the restore without any errors.

    Hi pramod,

Every time I try to get into a pwned DFU, my iphone 4 goes straight back to recovery mode but iREB says it should be in a pwned (black screen) DFU mode. Whats wrong?

    •
      Pramod3 years, 1 month ago

You’ll need to get your timing correct. If everything works fine, you’ll be at the Pwned DFU mode (pitch black screen) without a hitch.

Hello, when I try to restore to a 3.1.2 custom firmware on my ipod touch 2G using iREB to put it into Pwned DFU mode, I get the error 21. Any way to fix it? I’m running out of ideas :)

    •
      Pramod3 years, 1 month ago

      Hello Milan,
Error 21 occurs when your security s/w interferes with the restore/update process of iTunes. Make sure no firewall is blocking iTunes connection to Apple servers as well & also make sure that iTunes is able to contact Cydia as well when your performing the Custom restore.

      •
        Milan3 years, 1 month ago

        Hello Pramod,
Is there something special I need to do to make iTunes contact Cydia, or do I just try to restore it to a custom while turning off firewalls?

        •
          Pramod3 years, 1 month ago

If your using a custom restore, an entry in the hosts file is definitely required for iTunes to access Cydia. Check your hosts file in your computer for a line like this “74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com”. If its there, that’s ok. If not, add it and retry the custom restore procedure. You can find your hosts file over here: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.

I get same error.. Error 1600 over and over… I have an iphone 3g on 4.2.1, i think it has the ipad baseband. I just need it working on any baseband.

        •
          Wolverine3 years, 2 months ago

Change your USB port and the try again. Also note that if you have used iREB properly, there is no way you get error 1600 while restoring custom IPSW. I also have iPhone 3G with iPad baseband and its fully jailbroken and unlocked on iOS 4.1. I will recommend you to try again but this time connect your iPhone to some other USB port.

          •

I have tried 3 USB ports and 2 sync cables now. Have also tried doing it through redsnow DFU mode on my mac and none of them have worked. It goes through the steps on iREB then try to load the 4.2.1 custom 3G firmware and it does not work. Should i try to install a 4.1 custom firmware? I believe it has the iPad baseband. Any tips? Help? I have been working on this for like 6 hours. I have never had problems like this before.

          •
            Wolverine3 years, 2 months ago

Yep, i will recommend you to downgrade from iOS 4.2.1 to iPhone OS 3.1.2 first. Why? Because jumping from iOS 4.x.x to iOS 4.y.y on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (MB) also requires SHSH blobs. If you have iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs then you can downgrade directly, otherwise you must first downgrade to iOS 3.1.2 (Without SHSH blobs) and then upgrade to iOS 4.1 (Without SHSH blobs). In all cases, you must use custom IPSW as your iPhone 3G has iPad baseband.
