iBooty 2.0.1 Released: Fixes Waiting for iBSS Issue

iH8sn0w has updated his iBooty tool to v2.0.1 which now comes with a fix for those who get stuck at Waiting for iBSS step while booting their iDevice into a tethered jailbroken state using iBooty 2.0. The same issue was experienced by users in his iREB tool but it was later fixed by him in iREB v4.0.x/4.1/4.2.1.

iH8sn0w's iBooty 2.0.1
For those who don't know, after jailbreaking iOS 4.3 on any iDevice except iPhone 3GS (Old Bootrom), you need to boot it into a tetheted jailbroken state using iBooty tool. Every iDevice with iBoot version above 359.3 can detect if your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad is running a jailbroken firmware or not. What iBooty do is that it tricks your iBoot to think as if your iDevice is never jailbroken and is running stock firmware on it :P
iBooty 2.0.1 Tweet

If iBooty is stuck on "Waiting for iBSS", try this fix [2.0.1]. -- http://bit.ly/gx2JLn (Replace your old iBooty with this one).

If for some reason iH8sn0w's iBooty is still not working for you, you can use TetheredBoot Utility by Msft.Guy (@msft_guy). TetheredBoot Utility is basically an alternative tool for iBooty which helps you to put your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad into tethered jailbroken state using commands at Terminal. Unlike iBooty, TetheredBoot Utility is available for both Windows and Mac OS X.

I already did the plpurera1n one and now this is a different method but this time 2 codes to keep track? If this is so important why isn the dev-team asking people to do it? I’m gonna do this one to be safe but I’m just saying why is the dev-team silent I wonder.

You need to use that specific version of iBooty which gets extracted to your desktop right after creating a custom IPSW with Sn0wbreeze. It is not a universal tool unlike Redsn0w which works across all devices / iOS versions.

Are you sure that your using the same iBooty that gets extracted right after you have created a custom iOS 5.0.1 IPSW with Sn0wbreeze?

2.1 was able to get passed the IBSS issue but once it finishes, my ipod touch never boots up. It just stays in dfu mode. I can only get it out by pressing the power and home buttons, which nullifies what ibooty just did. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Nothing works for me.. I am able to install the firmware, everything goes just fine. Then it turns automatically on, and iTunes even wants to sync. I click no to the sync, put it in DFU again and try iBooty, 2.0 and 2.0.1. It always, ALWAYS gets stuck in the “waiting for iBBS” part. I have tried turning the iPod on during it, it didn’t work. Cydia crashes and it all seems like a big waste of time.. Help?

iPad 2 is already out. I don’t think Comex will release JailbreakMe 3.0 until iOS 4.3.1 is released by Apple.

iBooty 2.0.1 is not showing you any option to select iDevice because it cant find the the files folder. Use the same files folder which you downloaded in iBooty 2.0

    Sofia5 years, 8 months ago

I did it, but Cydia still doesn’t open.

    •
      Wolverine5 years, 8 months ago

You mean that the Cydia app crashes? It will take a while to load for the first time.

      •
        Sofia5 years, 8 months ago

Yes, it crashes. I jailbroke the iPod today and it went fine, then, using iBooty, it got stuck on the iBSS thing. Then I tried iBooty 2.0.1, it didn’t recognize my iPod. Then this TetheredBoot Utility, that should have worked… Still nothing. (Am I to restore the software again after using the TethreredBoot Utility?)

No, you do not need to restore your iPod again. Here is a small tip that worked for many people: When iBooty gets stuck at waiting for iBSS screen, press the power button of your iPhone or iPod Touch until it wakes up. iBooty will resume the tethered boot process.

After installing the Sn0wbreeze firmware, it starts normally.. But I read online that it usually stays blocked in the apple logo..

  •
    Sofia5 years, 8 months ago

It turned on, thank God.. I’ll try it again.

  •
    Sofia5 years, 8 months ago

    It won’t recognize my iDevice.
    Any suggestions?

You need to put your iPhone in DFU mode.

Update: Oh! Now i get it. In order to run iBooty 2.0.1, you must provide it with iBSS and Payload files. Download iBSS and Payload files for your iDevice from here.

My iPod won’t turn on anymore, it didn’t work (error with the kernel file). How do I get it to turn on again? Is it possible that it is now ruined?
