According to the recent tweet by iH8sn0w, Geohot's Limera1n exploit has been patched in iPad 2. For those who don't know, Limera1n is a low-level bootrom exploit which was discovered by Geohot to jailbreak iOS 4.0/4.1 on iPhone 4/3GS, iPod Touch 4G/3G, iPad and Apple TV 2G. As it was a bootrom exploit, so it was impossible for Apple to patch it via software update.
Confirmed: limera1n is patched in iPad 2.
The bootrom exploit which was used by Geohot in his Limera1n tool was later used by Chronic-Dev Team in GreenPois0n RC4 for iOS 4.1 jailbreak. It was a wise decision by Chronic-Dev Team to save the SHAtter exploit from getting wasted. Also note that Limera1n was initially a tethered jailbreak but Geohot made used of Comex's Packet Filter Kernel Exploit to make it untethered for all iDevices.
Now that Limera1n exploit has been patched in Apple iPad 2, jailbreaks should not worry as another iPhone hacker named Stefan Esser (@i0n1c) already owns an exploit for iOS 4.3 untethered jailbreak. Below is a video demo of iOS 4.3 untethered jailbreak on iPad:
MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd), who happens to be one of the core members of iPhone Dev-Team, also confirmed that the exploit owned by Stefan is valid.
The 4.3 untether JB could come from many sources.. @i0n1c, the pwn2own contestants, @comex are 3 possible (maybe more?)
Above tweet by MuscleNerd confirms that it is not only Stefan who owns an exploit for iOS 4.3 untethered jailbreak but Comex also has a similar exploit. From the above speculations, hopefully we will get iOS 4.3 untethered jailbreak anytime soon. If you do not want to wait for iOS 4.3 untethered jailbreak, you can use PwnageTool bundles by iH8sn0w and DjayB6 for a tethered iOS 4.3 jailbreak on iPhone 4/3GS, iPod Touch 4G/3G and iPad.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
