According to Comex, the founder of Spirit and JailbreakMe, the kernel exploit he used to jailbreak his Verizon iPad 2 on iOS 4.3 has been fixed by Apple in iOS 4.3.1 update. The exploit he used to jailbreak his iPad 2 was basically the same kernel exploit used by him in JailbreakMe 2.0 but Apple failed to fix it properly.
So what this update mean to iPad 2 users? Clearly they will not be able to jailbreak their iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.1 anytime soon. Those who are running iOS 4.3 might get lucky if Comex released JailbreakMe 3.0 for them. According to Comex, it is too early to say if it was a leak or Apple fixed the vulnerability coincidentally. The exploit was vulnerable to all iOS releases starting from iOS 4.0.2 to iOS 4.3 but Apple magically found the hole in iOS 4.3.1.
