Yes its true! The employees of China Telecom has hacked the Verizon iPhone 4 to make it work on their network in China. The successful experiment was carried out by China Telecom's Guangdong branch. Just like unlocking of AT&T's iPhone 4, they jailbreaked the Verizon iPhone 4 with GreenPois0n RC5 B4 tool and then unlocked it on their network. The first test call from an unlocked Verizon iPhone 4 was made on this Tuesday without a glitch.
A screenshot from a Sina Weibo account registered to the Guangzhou branch of China Telecom shows an image of what appears to be a Verizon Wireless iPhone 4 next to a Guangzhou China Telecom employee badge. The Chinese text above reads: "CDMA iphone 4 registered, for the first time we invite everyone to feast their eyes!!!"
For those who don't know, unlocking CDMA and GSM iPhone 4 is totally different. For unlocking a CDMA iPhone on a particular wireless carrier, the carrier has to activate the iPhone on its network while unlocking GSM iPhone 4 don't require such registration on carrier side. In this case, the hacker himself was the employee of China Telecom's Guangdong branch and registering the unlocked CDMA iPhone 4 on his network was not a big deal.

A China Telecom official said that the test call mentioned on the microblog was an experiment performed by the individuals within the company and do not represent an official company action. The spokesman declined to comment on whether the company is in talks with Apple to officially release a CDMA iPhone 4 for China Telecom but the company is definitely interested in carrying the device if Apple will make a compatible device for them.
