Sometimes it's quite annoying to see Windows Live Messenger covering so much space in our Windows 7 taskbar. Unfortunately there is no option available in Windows Live Messenger settings which would allow you to minimize WLM in your system tray or notification area, however there is a workaround which allows you to minimize Windows Live Messenger to Windows 7 notification area.
Minimize Windows Live Messenger to System Tray in Windows 7:
- Click on the 'Start Menu' and type 'Windows Live Messenger' to filter out WLM from the installed programs. Right-click on the WLM link and choose 'Properties' as shown in the screenshot below:
- In 'Properties' window, click on the 'Compatibility' tab and choose 'Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)' as the compatibility mode for Windows Live Messenger.
- Click OK and restart Windows Live Messenger. From now on, whenever you will click on the minimize button, WLM will be minimized to Windows 7 notification area. Cheers!
