Jay Freeman (Saurik), the founder and developer of Cydia App Store for jailbroken iDevices (iPhone, iPod Touche and iPad) while addressing at 360|MacDev conference confirmed that he will soon bring Cydia to computers running MAC OS X which shall provide access to jailbroken apps specifically designed for OS X.
Cydia for iDevices holds fair amount of market share. Around 10% of all iPhone users have Cydia installed on their phones and they access around 30,000 packages available for iOS in Cydia Store. Saurik mentioned that Cydia Store does not contain apps, they are rather iOS extensions to enhance performance and capabilities of iDevices. Hence, it will not pose threat to Apple's Mac App store expected to launch in January.
Many developers were disappointed with Apple's decision to not allow in-app purchases initially in Mac App Store, so Mac Cydia might just be the app store for a number of Mac developers.
Mac Cydia will be launched in coming few weeks, if you are a developer and interested in developing apps for Cydia Mac Store, you can contact an employee at patrick [at] saurikit [dot] com for further details. [via TUAW]Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
