Today at Facebook event in San Francisco, Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO) unveiled long awaited new "modern messaging system". Surprisingly, it's not an email service, it's a messaging system that uses email.
"This is not an email killer. This is a messaging experience that includes email as one part of it. It’s all about making communication simpler. This is the way that the future should work", Zuckerberg said.
Facebook believes a modern messaging system should contain these features:
- Simple & Short
Facebook's new messaging system has following three core features:
- Seamless Messaging
- Conversation History
- Social Inbox
In a nutshell, they designed a messaging system which incorporates all communication formats we use - email, chat, SMS etc. Facebook is not calling this new messaging system as an email killer, however the company do believes that people over a period of time will adopt their new & effective form of communication.
Facebook will start giving out @facebook.com email addresses in next few months via invites. iPhone and Android apps are expected to be updated soon as well. Let's see if this new messaging system is really a game changer, or another flop like Google Wave. [Image via Mashable, via TNB]
