Sad news for octopus Paul fans! The octopus named "Paul" that became internationally popular by predicted correct results of numerous World Cup matches this year died peacefully on Tuesday in Sea Life Center aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany.
Paul's caretakers used to present him with two boxes containing food (mussel), each box was marked with a flag of soccer team particapating in an upcoming match. The first mussel Paul would eat by swimming into one of the box predicted the victory for that particular team.
Paul correctly predicted winner of Germany's seven matched. Paul also correctly selected a win for Spain against the Netherlands in the World Cup final on 11 July, 2010 by eating the mussel in the box with the Spanish flag on it. Hence, his predictions were 100 % (8/8) true! Due to his successes, he ruled Twitter trends during World Cup, 2010.
