The newly shipped Apple TV has been jailbroken! MuscleNerd, has confirmed via Twitter that iPhone Dev-Team has finally managed to jailbreak Apple TV 2G running on iOS 4.1 by using PwnageTool based on the SHAtter exploit which was discovered by pod2g of Chronic Dev-Team.
SHAtter is a low-level bootrom exploit discovered by pod2g, former Chronic Dev-Team member who also discovered the very first bootrom exploit called 24kpwn. The tool based on SHAtter exploit will be probably called GreenPois0n (Unconfirmed).
This is the official update posted on iPhone Dev-Team's blog regarding:
It’s confirmed…SHAtter can trick Apple’s new AppleTV 2G into restoring to a pre-jailbroken IPSW from PwnageTool too! Literally the only UI application on the ATV is Lowtide.app, but now the window is open for jailbroken apps of all varieties. (Just like the early iPhone days, the only apps you’ll see on the AppleTV will be jailbroken ones). In the meantime, here’s a video showing root access (via ssh) into Apple’s new product.
The tool is still under development, once available, it will jailbreak iOS 4.1 on all iOS devices including iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, iPad and Apple TV 2G. We'll keep you posted regarding release of GreenPoisi0n tool. Stay tuned! [via iPhone Dev-Team]
