Great news for those who got the new Apple TV in their homes. iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed that SHAtter exploit can be used to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on new Apple TV 2010. iPhone Dev-Team has already demoed iPod Touch 4G jailbreak using PwngaeTool based on SHAtter exploit.
Official update via Dev-Team blog:
It’s looking like SHAtter is going to be the gift that keeps on giving. Even though the new AppleTV isn’t yet in people’s homes, the firmware is available on Apple’s normal public distribution servers and SHAtter has been used to decrypt its keys! The main filesystem (“Mojave8M89.K66OS”) key for 018-8609-066.dmg is:
If you’re familiar with vfdecrypt, you can use that key to decrypt the image and mount it.
Update by MuscleNerd (Dev-Team Member):
MuscleNerd, who happens to be a member of iPhone Dev-Team also confirmed that new Apple TV can be jailbreaked using tool based on SHAtter exploit, so all those who are interested in jailbreaking the new Apple TV should should buy it soon before Apple may replace the vulnerable stock with the fixed one. Last time when Apple encountered the very first bootrom exploit called 24kpwn in iPhone 3GS(Old bootrom) and iPod Touch 2G(non-MC), they released the completely revised hardware for iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G to fix the exploit.
For those who don't know, SHAtter exploit is a low-level bootrom exploit found by pod2g, former Chronic Dev-Team member. The tool which will jailbreak iOS 4.1 on all iOS based devices will be called GreenPois0n but it is still not sure whether it will be tethered or an untethered jailbreak.
