Jailbreak iPhone 3GS iOS 4.0.1 with PwnageTool Bundles

Now you can jailbreak iPhone 3Gs on 4.0.1 with PwnageTool Bundles. Remember this is an unofficial release and will jailbreak already pwned iPhone 3GS old bootroms only. Moreover it will be a hactivated jailbreak means it allows you to activate your iPhone on an unofficial carrier without inserting AT&T SIM first. Unlike Redsn0w it will preserve your baseband from being upgraded to 05.13.04.

iPhone 3GS new bootrom users are requested to wait for Comex Spirit tool which will be out in a week or so.

How To Jailbreak iPhone 3GS (Old Bootrom) on iOS 4.0.1 with PwnageTool Bundles

*Find download links at the end of post. This is an unofficial release. So please avoid it if you are new to jailbreaking and unlocking. However i have tested the procedure below myself and its working fine.

  1. *Download iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 3GS
  2. *Download iTunes 9.2.1
  3. *Download PwnageTool
  4. *Download PwnageTool Bundles
  5. Create a new folder on desktop and put PwnageTool, iOS 4.0.1 IPSW and PwnageTool Bundles in it. Rename folder to JB.

    6. PwnageTool iOS 4.0.1

  6. Now open Terminal and use the following commands to patch PwnageTool.

    7. cd /Users/UserName/Desktop/JB
    ls -al
    mv iPhone2,1_4.0.1_8A306.bundle PwnageTool.app/Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/
    exit

  7. After using the above commands, your PwnageTool will be patched and the JB folder will now contain only two files i-e iOS 4.0.1 IPSW and PwnageTool (Patched)

    8. PwnageTool iOS 4.0.1

Thats it. You have successfully patched the PwnageTool with the bundles and now its ready to cook a custom IPSW of iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 3GS (Old Bootrom). Now follow our step-by-step guide here to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 with PwnageTool.       You can use Redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 on iPhone 3G.

        I can't use RedSn0w. I need PwnageTool for custom packages capability. Hence, why I need Phone1,2_4.0.1_8A306.bundle.

          You can also use JailbreakMe 2.0 to jailbreak iOS 4.01 / 4.0.1 on iPhone 3G!

            Nope, I can't. I need PwnageTool for custom packages capability. At the page where you select whether you want Cydia installed, you can have your own packages show up. JailbrakeMe and RedSn0w won't let me make custom payloads. PwnageTool does. Hence, why I need a bundle for PwnageTool.

    I just thought I'd point out you do NOT need to hactivate to unlock. All hactivation does is cause issues with push notifications, just put an official SIM in for five seconds and your all active, then unlock and there. No hactivation crap and no push notification issues.

      Thankyou! What hactivation do is it enables you to get rid of emergency dial screen and shows you the real SpringBoard so that we can launch Cydia and install Ultrasn0w and unlock our devices. If not hactivated, we need original AT&T SIM to get rid of emergency dial screen!
