[How To] Add Missing BigBoss Repo to Cydia via SSH

Incase there is no BigBoss repository present in Cydia after you jailbreaked your iDevice with Sn0wbreeze, PwnageTool or Redsn0w then here is a simple way to add it. All you need is a jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with OpenSSH installed so that you can SSH into your iDevice using WinSCP (Windows) or CyberDuck (Mac).

BigBoss Repo via DiskAid

Add BigBoss Repository to Cydia via SSH

  1. Open Cydia, search for OpenSSH and install it on your iDevice.
  2. Download bigboss.list file from here and jump to step 5. Alternatively you can use the steps below to create bigboss.list file manually.
  3. Open Notepad in Windows. If you are on Mac, open TextEdit and copy-paste the following code into it:
  4. # do not edit this file to add your own custom sources
    # this file is subject to be upgraded as part of a package
    # either add your own .list file to /etc/apt/sources.list.d
    # or add your entry to the global /etc/apt/sources.list file

    deb http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/ stable main

  5. Go to File menu, choose Save As… and name the file “bigboss.list” (including quotes)
  6. SSH into your iDevice using WinSCP, CyberDuck or DiskAid, navigate to root->private->etc->apt and place bigboss.list file in sources.list.d directory
  7. Thats it. Reboot your device and you are done!

Update#1: Now you can use iPhone Explorer to put bigboss.list file in sources.list.d directory without SSH.
Update#2: Add ModMyi or BigBoss Repo to Cydia directly from Saurik repo. Read details here.
Update#3: Top Cydia Sources 2011
Update#4: Top Cydia Sources 2012

  • Miguel Karlo (iPhone 3GS)

Erm… Pramod or anyone of you guys, what were you referring to in my YouTubeToMp3 comment earlier about scrolling down to the “same page” ? And Pramod, I would like to know your email so I can show you my YoutubeToMp3 version in cydia, because I kept on searching in the updates, but couldn’t find v4.0.2 . Btw, you guys have a repo in cydia?

    • Pramod

At the bottom of the same page where it errors out, it shows you the conflicts / dependencies because of which your install is failing from Cydia. Might want to also check their official website for updates if any / reputed repos like BigBoss itself.

  • Fisnik

Thanks alot for helping me install BigBoss.

But everytime when i try to install something from BigBoss its only says Purchase theres no install…

Can you help me with this??

    • Pramod

That’s because your trying to install apps that needs to be purchased first. 90 -95 % of the apps that you find on BigBoss are always paid ones, so can’t do pretty much anything about that other than purchase them.

  • Miguel Karlo (iPhone 3GS)

Is there any way to add big boss again without a computer or something? And I would like to know I can’t download YoutubeToMp3 v4.0.2 because it didn’t update itself.

    • Pramod

Nope, you would still need a computer to do that.
Not really sure why you weren’t able to install YoutubeToMp3. You might want to check why it didn’t by scrolling down to the bottom of the same page that showed you the error.

  • dgau

This can be done in one simple command via ssh. This Jaxov really does go the long way around.

It’s clear that there are a lot of Cydia users who just don’t understand what they are messing with…anyway.

ssh into your iPod/iPhone/iPad with root/alpine

    At the command prompt…

    echo “deb http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/ stable main” > /private/etc/apt/sources.list.d/bigboss.list

    Simple isn’t it!!

  • Skinner

Recently deleted bug boss source from my iPhone 4… Want to know how to get it back… Please help

    • Pramod

Follow the instructions mentioned on this post.

  • Leejin

Hello, My telesphoreo repo doesn’t have the BigBoss Source in it. Could I just add it by using the usual manage>sources>edit>add thing? What is the address of the bigboss repo?

    • Pramod

No you cannot because Saurik has removed this source starting from Cydia 1.1. You’ll need to follow the manual method mentioned on this post to get the BigBoss repo back. And No, BigBoss doesn’t reside on a specific repo address as well.

  • Renato

    Dude, i love u, it worked =D

  • uthar

    • Pramod

You need not use SSH/Terminal methods to access your iPhone directories anymore. A much easier and simple solution called iPhoneExplorer is available for the PC/Mac. You can use that instead. Have a look here http://bit.ly/q7MDho.

  • aji

    • Pramod

Because of what thing your Cydia crashes? Can you be more specific on what is the problem?
