Yup, now it's confirmed! iPhone OS 4.0 and future firmware updates will have no support for iPhone 2G. A guy named ven000m emailed Steve Jobs about iPhone 2G support for future firmware updates, Steve answered "Sorry, no". This is probably due to the insufficient hardware specs of iPhone 2G which are required to run iPhone OS 4.0 as well as future firmware updates like iPhone OS 4.0.1 and 4.1.
Ops! It seems that Steve Jobs still don't want to leave iPhone OS 3.1.2 as you can see from X-Mailer: iPhone Mail (7D11) in the above screenshot. Click on the above image to view it in full-resolution.
