Direct Access to Motorola Droid's file system is possible now, as it has now been successfully rooted on Verizon! By Root Access we mean you'll be able to modify phone's firmware to install customized apps, roms, themes etc; just the way you do on jailbroken iPhones. Following procedure works on both the original Android 2.0 Rom, and the recently released Android 2.0.1 OTA (Over The Air) software update for the Droid phone.
Please follow step-by-step procedure given below to Root you Driod phone. It works for both Android 2.0 and 2.0.1 Update.
Step-1: It's recommended that you download latest 2.0.1 OTA software update on your Droid phone, you can download the file from here.
Step-2: You need to rename the .zip file you just downloaded to update.zip
Step-3: Move update.zip file to SD Card on your phone.
Step-4: Now power OFF your Droid and turn it ON again while holding X key.
Step-5: You should see a "/!\" symbol now, when you see it, press both vol+ and camera.
Step-6: Now just follow the normal on-screen menu to install update.zip file.
Step-7: When installation is complete, reboot you Droid phone.
That’s all! You should have a rooted Droid phone now, you should now be able to run "su" from your adb shell.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
