However if you want to update without paying a single penny to Apple then follow these simple steps to update your iPod Touch Firmware to 3.1 for FREE!

  1. First download iTunes 9
  2. Download iPod Touch Firmware 3.1 for iPod Touch 1G, 2G & 3G

    3. Download Firmware 3.1 for iPod Touch 1G | Alternative Link
    Download Firmware 3.1 for iPod Touch 2G | Alternative Link | Torrent Link (By Koool)
    Download Firmware 3.1 for iPod Touch 3G

    Note: In case the downloaded file is in Zip format, change the extension to .ipsw

  3. Connect your iPod Touch to the PC
  4. In iTunes's device list select iPod Touch
  5. In Microsoft Windows click Shift+ Restore
    OR
    In Mac OS X Option+Restore
